What do I have to know about the game? / What are the basics to know here? / Can someone teach me the game?

SoulWorker is not like other classical MMORPG games. It is a semi-open world game, where dungeons are the common place to farm XP and quests in order to level up your character, or to farm resources such as craft materials or currencies. Each city zone possesses its fixed number of mazes, and almost every mazes (basically all of them except raids) are split into 4 episodes. Also, each mazes (except raids again) have 3 difficulty modes: Normal, Hard, and Maniac.

Each time you enter a maze, you consume energy (or "FP points"). When your energy falls to 0 or under the target maze's consumption, you cannot enter anymore and you would need to restore your energy first. [read more on the guide page about Energy in SoulWorker]

As usual and typical to other MMORPG games, you require to complete quests in order to level up your character faster and progress through the game. Story quests, symbolized by yellow marks, are quests you should always follow in any circumstance. They are also required to unlock some special accesses (especially District 6 for Haru, Erwin, Lily, Stella, Jin and Iris. District 6 is a hub zone you cross every time to reach another city zone.; Lee Nabi also requires to do so in order to get out of the Tower of Lord, her starting point city zone). It is not really required nor recommended to focus on other quests than those.

Note: be extremely careful about story quests completed and taken inside mazes. Few people experienced cases where they could leave the maze without having to take the new story quest before, and then ended up with no more story quests and got stuck in their progression. If that happens, check the last maze you did complete for the story quest; a new one may be awaiting you at its end.
Also, if you accept and complete some side quests for some reason, beware not to leave them uncompleted to the NPC as this may prevent you to see any new story quest from the concerned NPC: the completed quests take priority in display over any other kind of quest, even story quests!

Functional NPCs come with a loyalty/favorability system here. This system intends to bring advantages to the player such as purchase/craft cost reductions or upgrade success bonus. It is recommended to perform daily interactions to these NPCs until you reach the max amount of daily allowed favorability points or until you reach max VIP level for this NPC. About mechanics, SoulWorker proposes a bunch of different mechanics. They can be confusing for a beginner, so here is a quick recap about them:

  • Equipment and Sockets: like in other MMORPG games, your equipment strongly improves your damage and your resistances against enemies. This is the primary focus in terms of character stuff. [Read the guide about Equipment in SoulWorker here]
  • Skills and Skill Chains: the first unique concept of this game, you can build your skill tree and put your skills into chain logics as you wish. This leads to a very large amount of possibilities, and optimized skill chains result in a passive (but strong) improvement of your overall performance in mazes.   • Akashic Records (or "A.R cards" or simply "akashas"): it is somewhat reminiscent of the Kanai Cube system in Diablo 3 (for me at least); you can collect cards which provide active or passive effects depending on the card. You can activate as many akashas as you want in your Akashic Records library, but cannot use more than 5 cards at the same time in mazes. [Read the guide about Akashic Records in SoulWorker here]
  • Brooches: a kind of 2nd layer equipment sockets. You can equip brooches on up to 5 of your fashion items and receive passive effects from them. Most brooches require you to fulfill a condition in order to benefit from their effect. Moreover, completing a set of brooches which meet certain conditions activates a set effect. Best-in-slot brooches significantly buff your stats, so much that it is quite unimaginable to ignore brooches for efficient clearance at endgame. [Read the guide about Brooches in SoulWorker here]
  • Soulstones: these are socket items for your equipment, but constitute a mechanic apart from others. Soulstones come with some sort of compatible elements system which have vague similarities to the one of Pokemon; one element is stronger against one, weaker against itself, and moderately strong against all others (neutral element included). According to the damage output buff they provide at max level, soulstones are a must have for efficient clearance at endgame and even become a prerequisite to fulfill for some teams.   • Tags/Re-Tags: a way to improve the basic attack/defense value of your equipment pieces (weapon/gears) by applying a separate chip on them. They are very strong on +9 pieces and especially recommended to have on pieces for efficient clearance at endgame. [Read the guide about Tags in SoulWorker here]
  • Titles: in SoulWorker, you can receive titles from special accomplishments (achievements, quests, etc.). Most titles provide passive effects for your character when active. Few titles though, especially event titles, don't provide any stat and are used only for visual purpose. [Read the guide about Titles in SoulWorker here]

A beginner should first focus on his story quests until he reaches level 65 at least. After that, he can start to delve into more detail on other mechanics listed above. Each mechanic is as important as others here, so you better learn what they are and how they work before rushing into endgame raids and getting rejected by other players because you just don't meet any requirements at all for the concerned endgame raid. Moreover, well-knowing the game leads to more comfort for you to play it in general, so rather consider learning these mechanics before going further.

For each new character created you receive free equipment pieces every 5 levels (obtained in a gift red box into your inventory). I recommend to upgrade the free weapon to +6 at max. as it becomes harder (and some kind of resource wasting) to go above; it isn't necessary to upgrade your gears, but do it to +4 max. if you feel yourself weak against enemies even with the weapon upgraded to +6, but this case shouldn't occur if you learn to play well and just don't rush mindlessly against enemies without noticing your gears are broken or way too low level for the maze you are currently running.
Think about repairing your equipment regularly at Zyte in order to avoid bad surprises!

It is not so important to focus on skill chains and the skill tree in general before your character's awakening (at level 57). It becomes interesting to look on it after this, and it becomes quite important to focus on once you reach level 65, start to run in Hidden Hideout raid and achieved your Desire Awakening.

Re-Tags become important things when the player starts to get his Disorder's legendary gear set (at level 65, this one is provided for free at +9 upgrade level). They can serve before, but it is not necessary to really focus on then; reversely, it is even more important to look toward them for endgame equipment.

Regarding titles, they are probably the least important mechanic to focus on when considering the other things listed above. Nevertheless, the player should not forget about them!
The current Best-in-slot titles can mostly be farmed through running mazes in less than 3 mins and completing the side quest named "For Strongest Spirit" from Eo at Grasscover.

How can I access social medias about the game?

Here is a list of official platforms' links about the game:

  • Game Support, to report problems such as in-game bugs, abuse, solve client problems, to make suggestions or to ask refunds/restore. People who may have general questions about the game can also use it for this purpose.

  • Twitter page.

There is also the Global SoulWorker Discord Server, which is the most common place where people meet and exchange with each other or ask for questions about the game to more experienced players. This one is unofficial though.

 

 

Is this game pay to win?

 

This can be discussed actually. Because we lost the benefit of having a account-wide shared bank, some precious resources such as Anti-Destruction Devices, Upgrade Plus and some others are way harder to obtain in large quantities since it is not possible to transfer them from a character to another on the same account, and then we lose the true interest of "Alt farming" here.

However, Lion Games seem putting regular events with which we can obtain these resources. Thereby, with a bit of luck we can get our final gear sets in not so much time. Nonetheless, this requires people to be lucky and/or the developers to put such event rewards often, which is not necessarily the case (especially for Upgrade Plus). These resources may be cheaper than they used to be on Gameforge SoulWorker, but if you require to spend real money on them to obtain your final gear sets we cannot say this game is 100% free-to-play... unless you don't mind waiting for quite some time until you gather all the necessary resources for upgrades/improvements + the required luck for these to achieve.

Because of the current state of the game in terms of FP, in terms of farmable resources and in terms of success rates in general, I rather consider this game as half-pay-to-win:

  • This one will be fully free-to-play as long as you don't focus on rankings + fast gearing.
  • If you put your interest into rankings and fast gearing, unless you are a very big lucker, you might have to put some money into it.

 

Does this version have other languages than English, Japanese and Chinese?

No, at least not yet (and to be honest it is pretty sure this won't change). If you want to play the global version, unless you can read Chinese, you can only set your client to English.

 

 

 

1.1) Servers

 

Which server/channel should I pick?

The server to pick for global instance is [EN] Tenebris, since the other one is for Taiwan.
When you login to the server, you can select a channel to start playing. Here are all of them:

  • US-E: Eastern part of the USA.
  • US-W: Western part of the USA
  • DE: Germany
  • GB: Great Britain
  • IN: India
  • BR: Brazil
  • AU: Australia

The channel you should pick refers to the location which is the closest to yours in terms of geography. Note that "messing up" with the choice of the channel won't be a matter since you can swap channels while being in-game directly, you will just get higher latency in case you pick a very distant channel instead of a closer one.

 

 

Is it possible to transfer characters/account details from a server to another?

No, it isn't possible to transfer characters or account details from one server to another.
From the fact they are both separate servers, you have to start from scratch again on the other one if you want to play on it, you don't have a choice at the moment.

 

So... Is it the same for my old account data, if I used to play on Gameforge SoulWorker?

Yes. Lion Games announced that it is not possible for them to restore our account data on the global server, this for several factors (one of them being data incompatibility between the old and the new launcher, this caused by disabling the account-wide shared storage + some other similar features).
We unfortunately have to restart from scratch on this server.

 

 

 

"Is the game on maintenance?" case

Most of the time, you cannot join a server simply because it bugged (unscheduled maintenances are now very rare here, as well as having the server being overloaded for real). You have to restart several times until you can access the server, there isn't much more you can do in order to counter this issue.

If you are unsure about the current state of the server (ie. you restarted several times and still face the same issue), you can still join the unofficial Discord server and ask if the servers are currently under maintenance. Otherwise, you can just wait for some time and try again later, if you don't wanna spam game launching until this one lets you get in.

1.2) Settings

 

How can I turn off the UI?

Two ways:

  • Using a hotkey (Default key "Scroll Lock"). This parameter can be changed in the game settings as wished.
  • Using the chat command "/showui 0"; "/showui 1" will revert the process. Note that you will have to type it blindly to reactivate the display of the UI if you use this command instead of the keayboard hotkey.

How to turn off skills' cutscenes?

 

Go in Settings > Game tab > Camera category and uncheck the parameter "Camera to show skills".
