Settings Details
Last update: 12/02/2021
As every games, Soulworker has its set of settings starting from basic ones (sound, graphic, hotkeys settings) to more advanced options.
Are listed below all options with a description of them.
For those who would like to get fast info about options, especially on a way of optimizing their game a bit in global terms, you can focus only on italic red lines.
Also don't forget to click "Save" then "OK" to save any changes made into the settings pane!
I] Game
1.1: UI scale modifies the windows' scaling on the interface. Only movable windows are impacted by this option as well as the chat window.
1.2: The Mouse sensitivity changes the cursor's speed when moving it while being in UI mode (ie. you pressed alt to activate the mouse cursor on the UI). This also impacts the camera's rotation speed while being in free mode (ie. the mouse cursor is disabled on the UI).
1.3: Rotate mini map is an option allowing to set the mini map either on fixed or rotative position. The fixed position means the map never rotate no matter what, where the rotative position will follow your character's cursor direction.
1.4: The Skill navigation is an option which set a visual indicator that shows a possible skill chain when using skills in combat.
1.5: Output character status - missing info.
1.6: The Auto loot feature allows the player to instantly collect every dropped items from slayed enemies, by simply running on them. Disabling this option forces the player to use the interaction key (key " F" by default) in order to pick every items. Both dropped Zenny and Ether are not impacted by this setting!
For people who have heavy FPS drops when picking a lot of items simultaneously, turn this option off. However, of course, you will have to press F on every single item you want to pick then, but this may help you in certain cases.
1.7: Character name, League name, Title and Output Rank are basically options which display the aforementioned info. It is possible to display these for everyone, for you and your allies only, or simply hide them for everyone.
Disable these options if you have a weak PC or want to optimize a bit your game's performances. You can simply disable display of character name to disable everything else (applies in city zones mainly).
1.8: Enemy-related options display the name and HP bar of enemies on top of their body after a hit has been landed to them. By disabling these options, such details will remain visible on top of the screen only after you landed hits to them.
Disable these options if you have a weak PC or want to optimize a bit your game's performances (applies in mazes only).
1.9: Speech bubbles are bubbles that appear on top of any character's head when a message is sent into the chat. It is possible to display everyone's speech bubbles, display those from you and your allies only, or disable them for everyone.
Disable this option if you have a weak PC or want to optimize a bit your game's performances (applies in city zones mainly, but also applies in mazes with team mates / in world boss' zones).
1.10: NPC name works the same than Character name and others, despite this parameter concerns NPCs only.
Disable this option if you have a weak PC or want to optimize a bit your game's performances (applies in city zones mostly).
1.11: Damage/Attack-related options concern all the inflicted and received damage. Own/Ally damage details display all damage received from enemies, and Own/Ally attack details display those you deal to enemies.
Disable these options if you have a weak PC or want to optimize your game's performances (applies in mazes only).
1.12: The FPS switch is set of some sort whether to display or not the number of frames per second on top-left of the screen. Integrally hiding the UI (through hotkey or chat command '/showui 0') doesn't affect this option.
1.13: Show Help window - missing info yet.
1.14: Side/Repeatable Quest is a parameter allowing to set a display limit for side quests (blue) and rply/repeatable quests (green) that have a lower level than yours, from 0 to 30 levels of difference.
Leaving the cursor on 0 will display every quests no matter how high your level is.
1.15: Since this setting can be changed through the game's properties into your Steam Library, the Language option is not available here (which is why it is greyed into the game).
1.16: Community Notifications are small visual indicators displayed on bottom-left of the screen, informing players whenever a friend and/or a league mate logs-in.
1.17: Camera to Output Skills is a cinematic option that either enables or disables skills' cutscenes (level 42 skill, nova skill, etc.).
Aside from aesthetic aspect, it may be recommended to disable this option or not depending on your own comfort.
1.18: Camera shake is a visual effect. It makes your screen shaking when using certain skills (such as the level 42 skill on certain characters).
This option slightly enhances skills' animation visually and can be disabled to save few FPS maybe.
1.19: The Expanded View is a setting activating in some areas with wide view angle (such as Lunar Fall, Hidden Hideout, Violebt Sun and etc.). This setting allows the player to increase the camera angle even more than in classic mazes or city zones. If disabled, the camera will be set at its default view angle and the player will not be able to zoom out in the areas described just before.
1.20: The Camera sensitivity modifies the camera sensitivity of the "High", "Down", "Turn Left" and "Turn Right" movements. This parameter is especially noticeable while playing with a game controller.
1.21: Receive Message are options allowing to modify access rights to other players about your personal info (equipment) and social interactions they can have with you. It is possible to grant access to everyone, restrict them to friends only, or block them for everyone.
It may be recommended to leave your personal info visible so that other players can check your gears when building a team for raids, at the risk of being rejected because they can't access your info after you applied to a team. But these preferences are all up to you.
1.22: Here are Screen settings. This last category allows to modify parameters relative to the print screen function. It is possible to modify the save path for screenshots (all your screens are registered by default in the "ScreenShot" folder contained at the root of the game folder), modify keyboard/gamepad hotkey as well as the output picture's quality.
About screenshot quality: it is recommended to set it on JPG instead of BMP simply because a jpg image has a globally better quality than bitmap images (even though it is indicated "low" for jpg and "high" for bmp on the settings window), and it also for easier sharing, especially on messaging services such as Discord (since a .jpg picture displays automatically while a .bmp has to be downloaded in order to be inspected).
1.x: Reset Game Settings is used to restore defaults for the Game settings tab.
II] Chat
2.1: Font Size is a setting used to change the font size of the chat.
2.2: Quick Whisper Reply - missing info.
2.3: Chat Duration - missing info.
2.4: Automatic chat - missing info.
2.5: Display position allows to set in which channel you want your auto messages to be sent. This requires to be in a party (team)/Force to work.
2.6: from Agree to team play to Help from team player - in these fields you can write the auto messages of your choice. However, you cannot put messages exceeding the characters input limit for auto messages (~250).
These auto messages will appear in the chat depending on the trigger.
2.7: Macro Chatting fields are used to set macro messages (linked to relative keyboard/gamepad macro chat hotkeys). You can put chat commands instead of basic messages here such as /monsterstatus 0-1, /freecamera 0-1, /png, exclusive emote commands and etc. [Access to the Chat Commands List]
It is also possible to use a game weakness to spam emotes using the chat macro (you just have to use this emote via the command of the macro chat, move a bit and then retry as wished). This may annoy people around you though, don't abuse it.
2.8: The Chat Message color and System Message color categories are used to change messages' color when they appear in the chat.
2.9: Chat Filters - When the chat is open ("Enter" key to open it) and if you right-click on one of the tabs, a small popup appears allowing to enable or disable some filters for messages. For the "Team", "League" and "Whisper" tabs, it is impossible to disable the filters relative to their original name and function (so it is impossible to disable league messages in the league channel for example), but it is possible though to enable/disable all other filters as you wish. Only the normal channel can get all its existing filters disabled, although doing this has no proper interest.
You can disable few filters such as "System", "Item received" and "EXP" if they disturb you. In addition, they might be responsible of some FPS drops in certain situations.
2.x: Reset Chat Settings is used to restore all parameters to defaults; chat filters are not concerned by this action.
III] Controls
3.1: Evade 2x directional key allows to set the moving hotkeys as dodge triggers (this consumes stamina!). By enabling this option, your directional keys now allow you to perform a dodge using stamina by quickly pressing your moving keys 2 times.
I strongly advise against using this option since your sprint is also engaged when quickly pressing your directional keys 2 times! With this option enabled, a dodge will occur each time you will try to sprint, and then (mostly involuntarily) consume your stamina.
3.2: Orient attacks to camera is an option allowing your character to pursue the flow of his attacks by following the camera's focus. Disabling this option leads to a case where the player can freely move the camera without having his character to deviate from his current path.
I would recommend to leave this option enabled, because more comfortable in regard of camera and character maneuverability, but this is all up to you.
3.3: Invert mouse allows to invert camera movements. This option only affects vertical movements.
3.4: Consecutive Skill Aid Function - missing info.
3.x: The Controller switch must be turned on when you intend to play with a game controller, and off when playing with the classic pattern keyboard + mouse; keeping it activated while using a keyboard + a mouse won't cause any harm though.
IV] Hotkeys
In the "Hotkeys" tab are configurable all hotkeys that it is possible to set in the game. No really need to detailing what do what for them.
V] Graphics
5.1: Screen options allow you to modify both screen mode and resolution for the game window. There are 3 available modes:
- windowed mode: the game runs in a window with plain and apparent borders.
- Entire screen mode: the game runs in a window with hidden borders. It is usually used with full screen resolution.
- Full screen mode: the game runs in primary window fitting the maximum size of your screen (but not necessarily max. resolution). In this mode, the game is set as exclusive window process (ie. higher priority for this task than others).
At first launch, the game opens in a windowed mode. Entire Screen Mode and Full Screen Mode may cause issues though (one not remaining consistent after restarting your game, and the other having issue with ALT + TAB). You can read more about them and eventually troubleshoot your issues here.
5.2: Total image quality is the global variable impacting all your graphics settings. Selecting one of the 3 general modes will impact settings accordingly to the global quality selected; "User Settings" is a custom parameter that will be triggered ever once you manually change any of the parameters below the Total Image Quality selector.
5.3: the Shadow Expression is the way the game renders all shadows on the ground. "Circle" will display a circle under every bodies, while "Projection" will display shadows' edges of the concerned body depending on its shape and the way the light spreads in the area.
5.4: under Total Image Quality and Shadow Expression settings, you have 5 Quality factors that will modify the output quality of the game.
For weak PCs or those who would like to optimize their FPS rate, set shadows on "circle" and reduce their quality to the minimum. You can also reduce particles quality to their minimum too and reduce to the half view distance for objects/enemies and terrain. Rely on "Picture quality" setting at last and only if you get desperate.
5.5: Brightness, Contrast and Gamma are options which influence the output luminosity of the rendering. Gamma option only concerns the full screen mode and works as a mix of luminosity and contrast parameters.
5.6: The Glow/dfn> enables/disables a golden highlight effect on elite monsters, and a bright effect on dropped items and on different aura effects (especially upgraded weapons and skills). Disabling this option will tarnish this glowing effect for items and auras, and will disable the golden highlight effect on elite monsters.
Disable this option if you have a weak PC or want to optimize your game's performances , especially if you don't care about glow effects.
5.7: Out Focusing enables/disables a blur effect for background elements when talking to an NPC.
5.8: Apply Destructive Physics enables/disables destruction and dismemberment effects on the killed enemies. Disabling it will cause the game to not display those effects anymore and enemies will then die in a more "classic" death animation, without scattering of body members.
Disable this option if you have a weak PC or want to optimize your game's performances (applies in mazes only).
5.9: The Anti-aliasing option makes rounded edges appearing smoother for the displayed elements. Disabling this option will cause these edges to appear more angular (or "aliased") and results in a less elegant display of elements. This option requires a game restart to apply any changes.
Here is a picture showing the comparison between displays with and without anti-aliasing.
Disable this option if you have a weak PC or want to optimize your game's performances.
5.10: Vertical synchronization (or "vsync") synchronizes the transition to a new frame of animation with the display update (or "refresh rate") of the screen. Therefore, vsync has for purpose to remove or greatly reduce seams/tearings between frames. On SoulWorker, it is set on 60 FPS by default, which corresponds to the standard for screens' refresh rate at public scale on Europe.
This option effectively reduces tearings when activated. However, it has the counter-effect to increase loading times (about up to 2 times in average with vsync enabled), and tearings are actually pretty low in general for 60Hz screens.
I recommend to turn it on for people who are trying to remove every tearings and/or save graphic resources, and off for people looking for faster loading times. Moreover, people using screens with upper refresh rate than 60Hz (~60 FPS), turning off this option may also increase fluidity for them.
Finally, note that activating the Vsync may cause display issues with some graphics cards, such as graphics grids.
5.11 The Motion blur effect enables/disables a blur effect on elements while background movements are on-going and pretty fast. In-game, this is noticeable when doing fast moves with the camera while evolving in animated areas.
Disable this option if you have a weak PC or want to optimize your game's performances.
5.12: Output ally player effects is an option used to show allies skills' visual effects on screen. Disabling this options intends to allow only your skills' effects to be shown on your screen.
Disable this option if you have a weak PC or want to optimize your game's performances. It isn't necessary to disable it if you play alone, but it becomes useful when playing as a team in mazes or if you run world boss maps (applies in mazes only).
5.13: The Display Class Up Aux Weapon option enables/disables the display of the auxiliary weapon. The auxiliary weapon is unlocked after you achieved your character's first awakening (at lvl 57 min. / ~lvl 59 for Lee Nabi, with her story quests) and shows on screen when you draw out your weapon.
Disable this option if you don't like aux weapon's visuals; enabling/disabling it doesn't affect skills' effects in any way though.
5.x: The Automatic optimization is used to let the game deducing what it considers as being the best values for your current hardware components.
VI] Sound
And eventually, the "Sound" tab allows you to modify audio outputs volume. Master volume will apply on every outputs.
Uncheck the little boxes to enable or disable single audio outputs or all of them directly by unchecking the master volume. Some details about individual outputs:
- Effects: outputs sound FXs audio, such as skills' or items' audio effects.
- Voices: outputs voices audio. It impacts all PC, NPC and monster voices.
- Environment: outputs ambience audio, such as step noises, wind audio effects and etc..
- Music: outputs BGMs audio.
